Seasoned and new members are encouraged to enroll in the NJEA-sponsored disability insurance program underwritten by Prudential. New teachers have 120 days to enroll when they are first hired without answering health questions. Members who did not join should watch for periodic open enrollment opportunities when health questions are waived. Premiums are usually paid through payroll deductions and benefits are payable 12 months per year if disabled.  TAX TIME IS HERE!  - Please note the amount that can be used when filing your 2011 tax return: $1,207.10. Additionally, educators are allowed a $250.00 tax deduction for educational supplies.  This deduction is scheduled to end in a few weeks.  It is important that educators URGE CONGRESS to extend the educator tax deductions as part of any payroll tax deal.  Teachers may still take this $250.00 deduction for the 2011 tax year, but next year is in jeopardy! 

                On a more upbeat note, the restaurant of the month for February is "GIORGIOS RISTORANTE" located at 52 Vose Ave., South Orange. (973) 762-4440. Giorgios is an intimate restaurant offering a wide selection of pastas, veal, seafood, chicken, and other daily specials. The service is great and the atmosphere is cozy.  There are a limited number of tables, so reservations are recommended. Outside dining is available during the spring and summer. Giorgios is a BYOB establishment.

The EOEA office is in the process of updating the membership data base. It is imperative that if you have had any kind of name change over the years (marriage, divorce, hyphenated etc.) to please call the EOEA office as soon as possible so we can be sure that you are accurately documented in the database.
